LUDWIG Hans Jürgen Syberberg, D 1972, 140 min

The first part of Hans Jürgen Syberberg's German Trilogy

"This film is, in a way, a follow-up to the 'living images' that were highly en vogue at the time. They don't depict the life of the Bavarian king but rather the images of his dreams – which he mistook for reality- It is one of [Syberberg's] most exciting movies, incomparable!" (Les Nouvelles Litteraires, 1973)

Syberberg continued the trilogy in 1974 with KARL MAY and concluded it in 1977 with HITLER, EIN FILM AUS DEUTSCHLAND (1977).
