EGOMANIA – ISLAND WITHOUT HOPE (CHRISTOPH SCHLINGENSIEF - DVD EDITION) (Egomania – Insel ohne Hoffnung (Christoph Schlingensief - DVD Edition)) Christoph Schlingensief, D 1986, 83 min

The devil (Udo Kier) meets the Virgin Mary (Tilda Swinton).

With his theater and art actions, as a filmmaker and opera director, Christoph Schlingensief (1960–2010) shaped cultural and political discourse in Germany over two decades. “Egomania” is a tract on the power of evil. The devil (Udo Kier) meets the Virgin Mary (Tilda Swinton).

A young woman and her admirer live on a deserted island. Their love is endangered when a baron appears and his coldness infects the island's inhabitants. He turns out to be a schizophrenic shapeshifter who moves between worlds and sexes, as the devil – and his aunt. To put any feeling on ice, he sets all the forces of darkness in motion.
